New digital tools for wholesale market prices

Fedagromercati, BMTI and Italmercati Rete d'Imprese held the "I prezzi nei mercati all'ingrosso: dalla competenza storica ai nuovi strumenti digitali" (Wholesale market prices: from historic expertise to new digital tools) webinar during which they presented the "Prezzi Ortofrutta Ingrosso" application, created by Unioncamere with the support of BMTI as part of a shared initiative with the Ministry for Economic Development.

As BMTI director Riccardo Cuomo explained, the app is a tool at the service of all operators to keep up to date with the prices of products in the main Italian wholesale markets. Once registered, users can view the prices of the five product categories (citrus fruit, fruit, vegetables, exotic products and dry products) according to the various types and varieties. Information on commercial characteristics - date of the latest detection, prevailing price, minimum and maximum price and any weekly variations of the prevailing price are shown. In addition, a specific app section shows the prices and information for all markets available.

"When talking about the innovation of market structures, digitalization is among the leading topics. The 'Prezzi Ortofrutta Ingrosso' app stems precisely from this, as it makes available wholesale price trends in a free, quick and easy manner. BMTI has always pursued its objectives guaranteeing the innovation of its tools without relinquishing maximum market transparency. This app is yet another proof of this." The app is already available on Google Play for Android and on the App Store for Apple.

"Today is an important day for our sector, not only to highlight the cooperation between wholesale operators and managing bodies, but also for the best use of the services of a fundamental actor for market development and economic information such as BMTI. This App is the perfect tool to provide information on prices with the objective of making the wholesale world more balanced and transparent thanks to innovation and digitalization. I firmly believe that, with the help of Italmercato and BMTI, we will manage to promote this app and help valorize companies and keep them up to date," reported Valentino Di Pisa, president of Fedagromercati.

Fabio Massimo Pallottini, president of Italmercati, explained the crucial role of wholesale markets for the sector. "To guarantee an actual digital transition, markets part of Italmercati have been investing on the automated management of entries, on order management procedures with the creation of specific marketplaces dedicated to fresh produce and fish and on product traceability to guarantee the transparency and protection of products."

"Over the years, we have built a price-detection public interest service thanks to the cooperation with BMTI and Unioncamere, which has proved essential to orientate consumer choices. Any additional concrete technological innovation represents a competitive advantage for operators who can guarantee increasingly transparent prices to consumers."
