New processing and photovoltaic plants against rising energy prices

Agrintesa has invested over €6 million in the innovation and sustainability of its plants in Bagnacavallo, Faenza (Ravenna) and Gambettola (Forlì-Cesena). New solar panels for the production of green electricity, new palletization and packaging systems, a new grader for organic produce and a total renewal of the cooperative's IT systems with the support of international partner Deloitte.

Cristian Moretti

"We planned the investments a few months ago with the objective of maintaining the competitiveness achieved over the years and further develop our activities to continue to be a point of reference for the national and international fresh produce sector. Innovation will be increasingly important in the future and Agrintesa will be ready without renouncing the great attention it has always placed on environmental, economic and social sustainability," explains director Cristian Moretti.

The Faenza facility (Ravenna)

The investment will involve three processing facilities. "In the Gambettola plant, a new grading line will be installed for organic fruit, green and golden kiwifruits in particular. The system is supplied by Unitec and boasts the KiwiVision3 technology, the most recent and updated available on the market. The Faenza facility will instead be provided with new palletization systems that will make operations easier and safer. There will also be a new packaging system supplied by Sorma Group for various types of trays and punnets, which will be used for stone fruit in the summer and green kiwifruit during the winter months."

The Bagnacavallo facility(Ravenna)

The photovoltaic systems at the Faenza and Bagnacavallo facilities will also be upgraded. "We have made this choice with environmental sustainability in mind but also for economic reasons due to the exponential increase in the price of electricity. The new systems are currently being positioned and will start operating soon to integrate existing ones increasing the energy self-produced by 2.5 Megawatts."

What is more, the entire IT architecture will be updated. "The process is already underway and will continue over the next two years involving not just Agrintesa, but all of the companies part of the Group. The project was called 'Innovare Insieme' and will include the overhaul of the management system, which will be replaced with a new E.R.P. SAP with specific functions for the various company departments. The entire infrastructure will also be renewed."

Grader in Gambettola (Forlì-Cesena)

"It is a considerable digital and process innovation operation that will affect Agrintesa's "data and information core", and one we have entrusted to skilled professionals: the entire system implementation work is in fact developed by Deloitte together with our collaborators from the ICT department and other external companies."
