The Dutch company MultiGrow Grashoek recently began using a Reintjes Systems complete automation solution. The international food processor grows around 17 million cucumbers annually under the name MultiFresa. It recently added strawberries to this brand. Taking this line into use is a big step toward the company achieving a sustainable food processing chain.

"We aim to get cucumbers into stores 24 hours after they've been harvested," says MultiGrow director Thom van Mullekom. The company had already invested in three automated packing lines. However, until recently, these packaging lines were still operated entirely manually.
For owner Thom, that was reason enough to look for an automation solution that could make the food processing process even more sustainable. In 2021, he found a new automation partner in Reintjes Systems and started a new automation project with them in early 2022.
Reintjes Systems designed a new, innovative total solution. It boasts two universal depalletizers, a crate de-stacker, crate unfolder, pneumatic crate de-stacker, two hook converters, and various smart intralogistics transport systems. Now, MultiGrow Grashoek, a well-known cucumber - and recently also strawberry - grower, can operate its three packaging lines fully automatically.
By integrating this total solution, the company can process its fruit and vegetable even faster, fresh, and of higher quality. It is, thus, taking a major step towards creating a sustainable food processing chain.
These solutions also contribute to an ergonomic working environment. Thanks to the universal depalletizers, MultiGrow can quickly and easily put its pallets with folded crates on the food processing line using a pump truck or forklift. So, no more manual, time-consuming, labor-intensive unloading of high, heavily-stacked pallets.
