Dutch cooperative to introduce digital auction in 2023

Coöperatieve Tuinbouwveiling Zaltbommel en Omstreken B.A. is hard and work preparing for the introduction of a digital auction. This system will allow this Dutch cooperative to sell a more comprehensive selection of fruit and vegetables through a digital portal. The new auction system will be operational in the first quarter of 2023.

According to director, Gerard van de Anker, Veiling Zaltbommel will keep doing lot auctions. "Each grower has a number and products with an appropriate price for their specific product. We're currently in full discussions with new buyers and growers. We want to get ample year-round volume and auction purchasing power. There's interest from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany for a digital auction, both from growers and buyers."

Investing in this digital auction should strengthen Veiling Zaltbommel and its growers' market position. "Last year, we received several inquiries about possibly buying remotely," explains Gerard. "These buyers will join the digital auction in 2023. We're working hard to make this a reality. We expect to go live with the digital auction early next year."

"There's much market demand for high-quality fresh, healthy products. Like direct sales, the added value of a well-functioning auction proved itself again this spring. There was an eight percent product increase. Price transparency and flexibility are our top priorities. Our grower and customer lines are short, which is appreciated and we expect the digital auction to lead to further growth," Gerard concludes.
