Peruvian passion fruit exports increased in volume and value in 2021

In 2021, Peru exported 22,879 tons of passion fruit for $54 million dollars, i.e. 23% more volume and 20% more value than in 2020, which allowed it to -once again- be the world's leading passion fruit supplier.

The average price of passion fruit stood at nearly US$2.36 per kilogram, 2% less than in the previous year. The Netherlands, the United States, and Chile were the main destinations. Together they accounted for 70% of the country's passion fruit exports.

The Netherlands was the main destination with 11,418 tons of passion fruit worth $26 million, i.e. 9.1% more volume but 3.6% less value than in 2020 as the price of the fruit decreased by 12% and stood at $2.23 per kilogram.

Peru exported 3,949 tons of passion fruit to the United States market for $10 million dollars. Exports to this destination increased by 118% in volume and 77% in value over 2020. As a result of this increase in volume, prices fell by 19% and stood at $2.49 per kilogram.

Chile positioned itself as the third-biggest destination, surpassing Puerto Rico and France. It imported 1.049 tons for US$3 million, i.e. 8% more volume and 2% more value than in the previous year. As in the other countries, the price decreased and stood at US$2.39 per kilogram, i.e. 5% less than in 2020.
