Raphaël Martinez, PDO Peaches and Apricots of France

“The sales accelerated last week”

The French production of peaches and nectarines will reach about 200,000 tons this year, which is 20% more than in 2021 and very close to the normal potential. This production level should allow the French peach and nectarine sector to have a nice 2022 campaign, according to Raphaël Martinez, director of PDO Peaches and Apricots of France. “This year is marked by strong precocity and relatively large volumes at the beginning of the season. The 4 colors - yellow and white peaches as well as yellow and white nectarines - are now available in all regions of France.”

The French origin benefits from two phenomena
The lack of competition from Spain, where the production has been severely reduced by the frost this year, and the highly favorable weather conditions of the past few weeks have been beneficial for the French production in terms of both quality and consumption level. “The sales accelerated last week and promotional actions will boost consumption even more next week. French peaches and nectarines now have a prominent place on the shelves, in line with the growing consumption.”
