Apulian cherries reach the European market

La Grande Bellezza Italiana cherries can once again be found on the shelves of Italian supermarkets, but also in the rest of Europe. "We are currently packaging cherries of the Ferrovia variety that we now pick daily in the Apulia region. In order to be marketed under the brand, the cherries must reach the caliber and sugar content established by the protocols," said Leonardo Odorizzi, a member of the network of companies that make up La Grande Bellezza Italiana.

"A premium line is about guaranteeing a homogeneous and consistent product throughout the season, from the first day to the last. We are able to accomplish this because product selection is done after immediate cool-down of the fruit. After sorting by caliber, a check for defects takes place with a scanner, cherry by cherry. The tolerance of defects is zero, when it comes to cherries."

The trays weigh 500 or 600 grams, depending on the customer's needs. "Ferrovia can be harvested for a month, which allows for a steady programming. After Apulia, we switch to harvesting in the province of Cuneo, in the Piedmont region, where the cherries grow at an altitude of 500/600 meters. The fruit is available until September. In this way we always have a high-quality product available. Only the cherries with size 28+ make it to the selection. The packaging is in paper and biodegradable plastic."

The packaging uses 100% recyclable paper with a window made of corn fiber to make the cherries visible to consumers. In addition to recent agreements in France, La Grande Bellezza Italiana has commercial contracts underway with numerous supermarket chains in Northern Europe, including Germany.
