NZ navel orange season not yet started as Valencia season finished earlier than expected

For the past couple of weeks, the oranges have been in short supply in many places in New Zealand as the navel orange season had not yet started but the Valencia season finished earlier than expected.

Ajay Jina, director of Jina’s World of Fresh Produce, said it was something that had not happened for many years. Moreover, imported fruit had been hard to find, he said. He said, by next week, the New Zealand navel oranges should start becoming ripe. “They are on the trees but not quite ready.” There would also be imported oranges from Australia next week, he said.
