In the first May since the resumption of the market, all kinds of spring and summer seasonal fruits flooded into the market, and the fruits entered the peak sales season. According to statistics, in the Jiaxing fruit market, the market transaction volume and transaction value in May fell by 25.90% and 8.15% respectively year-on-year.
The supply and demand of seasonal fruits are booming, and mangoes and lychees are selling well in the market
Since the resumption of the market on April 20, some spring and summer fresh fruits have been on the market one after another, such as lychee, bayberry, melon, loquat, cherries, cantaloupe and others. According to statistics, the top five domestic fruit transactions in the market in May were watermelon, mango, cantaloupe, lychee, and sweet orange. Due to the holidays in May, the prices also rose.
Watermelon, as a perfect product to relieve heat, is deeply loved by consumers in summer, and the transaction volume of the month is far ahead. In May, the total transaction volume of watermelons decreased by 27.66% year-on-year, and the average price increased by 29.43% year-on-year. Among them, the 8424 watermelon, which is known as the ace watermelon, ranks first in sales, accounting for 74% of the total watermelon transaction. Judging from the current market price in general, the market price of watermelon this year has risen compared with the previous year, mainly because the total production of watermelon in 2022 will decrease. In addition, many watermelons in winter and spring in China are usually imported from countries such as Myanmar. However, due to the pandemic and customs clearance, the number of imported watermelons has been greatly reduced. According to statistics, China's watermelon imports in 2021 dropped by 41.1% year-on-year, which also leads to such a high market price.
Affected by the pandemic in the early stage, 100% of the mangoes stranded in the market were damaged. After the market resumed operations, the demand for mangoes was large. However, due to the tightening of pandemic prevention and control policies in the early stage, labor and transportation costs increased. Therefore, during this period, the price of mangoes has also been rising. According to statistics, in May, the average price of mangoes in the Jiaxing fruit market was 12.32 RMB/kg, a year-on-year increase of 54.20%.
At the same time, affected by the low-temperature weather this year, the production of lychees has decreased, so the purchase price of lychees this year is higher than in previous years. As the lychee matures, the volume on the market will increase gradually, and the price of lychee may fluctuate in the later period.
Thailand's mangosteen is on the market in large quantities, and the price is acceptable
In May, the transaction volume of imported fruit was 71,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 21.39%; the transaction volume was 1.6billion RMB, a year-on-year decrease of 21.27%, and the average price was 22.54 RMB/kg, a year-on-year increase of 0.22%. Imported fruit from Southeast Asia has entered a peak period, and Thailand's durian and mangosteen have ushered in a maturing period. This year, Thailand's mangosteen has a bumper harvest.
Compared with last year, the output has increased by about 38%. The reason is that the output was influenced due to bad weather and quality problems last year. In addition, this year, mangosteen has increased the capacity of land transport to speed up the supply, the market supply is sufficient, and the market wholesale price is as low as 22RMB/kg. Now that the domestic pandemic situation has basically stabilized, the logistics is slowly smooth, and the market is gradually opening up. In addition, there is no competition from Vietnamese mangosteen this year, and Thailand's mangosteen monopolizes the market, which is bound to usher in a wave of good sales.
The best-selling varieties of durian are Golden Pillow, and Ganyao. Among them, the Golden Pillow from the eastern region of Thailand from May to June has the best taste, and the prices of its various brands also fluctuate. The price increase of Musang King durians from Malaysia dropped significantly, down 53.85% year-on-year.
In addition, the trading volume of jackfruit and dragon fruit among imported fruits decreased by 40.23% and 61.09% respectively year-on-year in May. At present, it is also a peak period for the sales of domestic blueberries, and blueberries have a relatively high commodity value.
Affected by the pandemic, the blueberry trading situation declined in April. But in May, the blueberry trading volume increased by 111.49% year-on-year, and the average price was 35 RMB/kg, down 30% year-on-year. It can be said that it has become the mainstream product of domestic boutique fruits in the current market, and its popularity is no less than the Chilean cherry. At present, the packaging of blueberries has reached a high level, and the more prominent brands are Joyvio and Driscoll's.
