French carrots: bigger harvest in 2021/22

The 2021/22 French carrot harvest (for the fresh market) has increased and is estimated at 412,000t, thanks to the good harvests in the southwest of the country, according to Agreste.

As of May 1st 2022, the surface areas for carrots (fresh market) were estimated at 11,000 ha for the 2021-2022 campaign, which is 1% more than last year. The total production for this campaign is estimated at 412,000 tons (7% increase), thanks to the very good harvests, especially in southwestern France, the largest production basin (+19% in a year).

Since the beginning of 2022, the abundance of the offer and the lack of demand for all winter vegetables, including the carrot, have brought prices down significantly, compared to last year and the 5-year average.
