Spanish melon exports fall by 20.3 million kilos in 3 years

In 2021, Spain exported 430.76 million kilos for 312.35 million euro and an average price of € 0.72/kg. Shipments of this fruit have decreased in recent years by 20.3 million kilos, as the country exported 451.06 million kilos of this fruit in 2019, according to data prepared by Hortoinfo.

This decrease is mainly due to a drop in exports from the province of Murcia, the largest melon exporting province, whose shipments have decreased by 39.73 million kilos in that period, going from 248.39 million kilos in 2019 to 208.66 million kilos in 2021.

Despite this decline, Murcia is still by far the largest exporting province accounting for 48.44% of all Spanish melon exports, worth 154.1 million euro at an average price of € 0.74/kg.

It is followed by Almeria with 92.39 million kilos worth 63.57 million euro and an average price of € 0.69/kg.

Then comes Valencia with 30.52 million kilos, 27.15 million euro and an average price of € 0.89/kg; Alicante with 27.5 million kilos worth 18.44 million euro and an average price of € 0.67/kg; and Ciudad Real with 20.12 million kilos, 9.18 million euro, and an average price of € 0.46/kg.
