Morocco has overtaken Spain to became the UK's second-largest tomato supplier

Between 2019 and 2021, Spanish tomato sales to the UK decreased by 43.07%, and the Netherlands' tomato exports to this market fell by 22.03%, while Morocco increased them by 63.44%, according to data prepared by Hortoinfo from Comtrade, the Statistics Division of the United Nations (UN).

In 2019, British importers bought a total of 120.21 million kilos of tomatoes from Spanish marketers, a figure that fell to 68.43 million kilos in 2021.

Dutch tomato imports fell from 163.24 million kilos in 2019 to 127.27 million kilos last year.

Meanwhile, the UK bought a total of 67.82 million kilos of tomatoes from Morocco in 2019 and 110.85 million kilos in 2021, displacing Spain as the British market's second-largest supplier of tomatoes.

The Netherlands, Morocco, and Spain provide the United Kingdom with 91.36% of the tomato it imports.
