Potato market report week 19:

'Generally speaking, business proceeded fairly quietly'

The composition of the assortment had not changed significantly. Local offers determined the markets, French goods complemented it. In the early table potato segment, Egyptian Spunta appeared in very small quantities alongside the Italian, Moroccan and Cypriot batches. Italy expanded its supplies with the Levante waxy variety. In general, business was fairly quiet. Prices often remained at the previous level. In Munich, Moroccan products became somewhat cheaper; traders thus tried to accelerate sales. In Berlin, only Italian products were affected by slight price reductions.

Rhineland-Palatinate: Steady prices
The table potato market remains balanced and demand at seasonal levels. Early table potatoes, mainly from Egypt and Israel, are in greater demand from food retailers. They are now listed in all assortments, and in some cases already dominate the range. Spanish goods are expected shortly. The alternative German offer is decreasing in the course of this. Sales are continuing at constant prices. Price changes are no longer expected until the start of the early potato season, the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture claimed.

Hesse: Stable price situation
Residual lots from the previous harvest are still finding buyers. Despite physiological aging and relatively high grading, there definitely is a steady demand. Processing goods in particular are in demand. The stable price situation on the local market is thus continuing. Supply and demand are largely balanced. Packers do not expect to switch to newer products before the end of June. Imports from the Mediterranean region have so far been less abundant than in previous years. The development status of field stocks in Hesse is within the usual range. In three weeks, the start of farm-gate sales is expected in southern Hesse, Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen reports.

Lower Saxony: Good sales for Mother's Day
According to the basis (grading 35 - 65, less than 8% defects, light and firm-skinned goods, loose, free collection point per 100 kg), the following prices were paid last week:

Depending on the quality, increases or reductions are still possible, as Bauernverband Nordostniedersachsen e.V. Please note the following market information: Sales of table potatoes for Mother's Day progressed well. Warm soil temperatures favored rapid field emergence and plantings were able to progress well. The lack of rain means there is a lack of moisture in the ridges.
