Kerala government decides to fix Minimum Support Price for five more crops

The Kerala state government has decided to fix a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for five more crops in the state. The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices recommended setting MSPs for yam, pumpkin, brinjal, bottle gourd, and watermelon. The department of agriculture has approved the recommendations in principle. After fixing the Minimum Support Price, the suggestions will be forwarded for the recognition of the Finance department.

The state declared MSP for fruits and vegetables in 2020. Currently, the vegetables with MSP are- tapioca, banana, pineapple, ash gourd, cucumber, bitter gourd, snake gourd, long beans, tomato, ladies finger, cabbage, carrot, potato, beans, beetroot, and garlic. The MSP is fixed by considering the productivity of the crop in one hectare.
