The current situation will be analyzed at Ginger Week 2022

Global overproduction of ginger negatively affects Peruvian exports

Ginger shipments in the first two months of 2022 amounted to $14,633,000, i.e. 18.8% less than the $18,040,000 achieved in the same period of 2021, according to data from ADEX.

"One of the main reasons we got to this point is the existing overproduction of ginger in Peru and in the world, which has also caused prices to decrease," stated sources from Elisur Organic.

"If we don't take corresponding actions, we could also encounter other consequences, such as the spread of fungal rot, warts, and bacteria, having areas that are left unharvested due to lack of demand, and the slowdown in the growth and development of the ginger value chain," they added.

"Faced with this, it is important to take corrective and preventive measures, involving the Ministry of Agrarian, Productive, and Foreign Trade Development, exporting companies, farmers, importers, and service providers, among others, so the sector plans its production in an orderly, responsible, and sustainable manner," the Peruvian company added.

"Despite all this, the Peruvian ginger stands out from the ginger from other origins because of its attractive appearance, intense yellow color, spicy flavor, and high concentration of gingerol," they added.

Elisur Organic will hold the Ginger Week 2022 on May 18, 19, and 20. This is the second edition of this international event and this year's theme is "Beyond trade". This event specializes in ginger, seeking to achieve a sustainable business over time, thus contributing positively to the agricultural and export environment.

The event will be held online and will connect all the actors of the agro-export chain. There will be specialized talks by leading professionals of international scope as well as links to the sector's agricultural base, which will showcase the agricultural practices and reality of ginger.

"The goal is to start consolidating Ginger Week as an event that will bring development and experience to the sector year after year."
