Maoming lychees are exported to the Philippines for the first time

Maoming City, Guangdong Province is known as "the hometown of lychees in China". Now is the ripening season for lychees. This year, thanks to the entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), local lychees were exported to the Philippines for the first time.

Since the first batch of lychees was exported from Maoming on April 25, as of the 10th, Maoming Customs has supervised the export of 214.5 tons of lychees with a value of 5.741 million RMB, and exported to Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, the Netherlands, Canada and other countries.

According to Guangdong Zefengyuan Agricultural Products Co., Ltd., a major exporter of Maoming lychees, although there is still some time before Maoming lychees are on the market in large quantities, the company's overseas orders this year came early. The current total order volume is close to 300 tons, from the Philippines, Dubai, Canada, the Netherlands, Italy and other countries. This year, they will continue to expand the number of destination countries as well as the export volume, and it is expected to increase to 19 countries, striving to open up export channels to all RCEP countries.

In order to promote the healthy development of the local fresh lychee industry and ensure that fruit farmers do not reduce their income despite the limited production, Maoming Customs actively promotes Maoming lychees to open up overseas markets and expand exports. The customs also focuses on publicising RCEP policies, promotes the RCEP agreement on tariff concessions and rules of origin, and guides enterprises to fully benefit from it. Currently, 6 batches of fresh lychees have been exported to RCEP member countries, accounting for more than 90% of the total export volume.

Maoming Customs stated that, as a free trade agreement with the largest population, the largest economic and trade scale and the most potential for development in the world, RCEP has opened up a broader international market for the export of lychees in Maoming, Guangdong. It is reported that Maoming is the largest lychee production base in the world, with a planting area of 90,000 hectares in the city. In other words, for every five lychees in the world, one is produced in Maoming.
