Jiaxing Fruit Market

Prices of imported fruit mainly rose in April

In April, the price index of imported fruits in the Jiaxing Fruit Market rose year on year and fell month-on-month. Among them, the year-on-year price index closed at 114.66 points, up 14.66%; the chain price index closed at 88.89 points, down 11.11%.

On a year-on-year basis, as the transportation of imported fruits was hindered and the costs increased, the prices of imported fruits were mainly rising. Among them, due to the reduction of production in domestic production areas, the total supply of bananas has decreased, and the price has increased significantly compared with the same period of last year, with a year-on-year increase of 34.40%; the price of durian, jackfruit and longan has increased by 23.35%, 14.77% and 13.21% year-on-year respectively. The year-on-year price for pitaya fruit fell by 13.02%.

From a month-on-month point of view, the sales of jackfruit in Vietnam are seriously slow, and the price of jackfruit has dropped significantly, and the price fell by 36.35% month-on-month. In April, it was the peak season for durian sales in Thailand, and with the launch of the China-Laos railway special train for durian transportation, the volume of durian goods continued to increase, and the price declined. The price fell by 23.09% month-on-month. The month-on-month price indices of bananas, pitaya and longan rose by 16.42%, 12.00% and 11.94% respectively.

At the end of March, the Jiaxing fruit market faced unprecedented challenges. Due to the need for pandemic prevention and control, the market was listed in a temporarily closed management area, and the market was closed for 20 days. Until the end of April, thanks to the strict implementation of the prevention and control work in the market and the improvement of the situation, the market took various measures to promote its resumption of the market, but in just ten days of operation, data such as fruit transaction volume, transaction volume and the number of vehicles entering the market all dropped significantly, and the market prosperity index fell to a record low.

In the following months, with the steady restoration of the market operation order and a large number of seasonal fruits entering the market, the popularity of fruit trading will rapidly rebound, and the market prosperity index will also quickly return to the prosperity range.
