Banana growers in Vale do Ribeira, Brazil closed an agreement worth R$ 30 million with the Government of São Paulo and will supply 60 million bananas to the state's public school system. With the resumption of face-to-face classes, the Executive resumed the routine of public calls for fruit suppliers for school lunches.
In the first call, last Friday (6), the 12 cooperatives of farmers in the region closed contracts that, together, exceed R$ 30 million. Last year, they had already closed deals worth R$5 million and R$12 million.
According to the president of the cooperative (Coopercentral), Rafael Grothe de Oliveira, the contracts represent half of the revenue of about 1,500 small banana producers distributed in eight municipalities in the Ribeira Valley.
