Hailstorm damages 70% of fruit crop in Srinagar

Director General Horticulture Kashmir and Director Agriculture Kashmir on Sunday toured affected areas to access the losses, just one day after parts of Srinagar witnessed heavy hailstorm that caused heavy damage to orchards, crops and other standing crops.

Director Horticulture, Ajaz Bhat visited various areas of district Srinagar viz. Dara Harwan and Faqir Gojri which have witnessed heavy hailstorm causing damage to fruit crops. The hailstorm occurred in various parts of the valley, however its severity was not much in other districts.

Still, the hailstorm which hit parts of Kashmir on Friday has caused heavy damage to fruit trees on Srinagar outskirts. As per a preliminary assessment by the Horticulture Department in Kashmir, the hailstorm caused 70% damage to cherry, walnut and apple orchards located in Harwan and Fakeer Gujri on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Affected farmers have demanded a waiver for their Kisan Credit Card Loan (KCC Loan) for this year.
