Prices for local and imported tomatoes are dropping in Ukraine

Prices for local and imported tomatoes in Ukraine remained at fairly high levels throughout April. High selling prices for tomatoes this season are explained by a combination of factors. The main reason was interruptions in the supply of imported tomatoes to Ukraine due to logistical problems. An additional role was played by the general decrease in the supply of local tomatoes in Ukraine, which, in turn, is associated with the suspension of the work of some Ukrainian greenhouse plants in the temporarily occupied territories.

As for now, prices for imported and local tomatoes in Ukraine have begun to decline. The price reduction in the segment is associated with the arrival of large batches of imported tomatoes to Ukraine from Turkey and Poland, as well as with an increase in harvest in local greenhouses.

If the price of a local tomato reached 120 UAH/kg ($4.10/kg) last week, today it does not exceed 60-80 UAH/kg ($2.05-2.73/kg), which is on average 31% cheaper than a week earlier.
