Lidl brochure annoys and worries customers

Discounter offers cucumbers for €4.65 per kg

Cucumbers are a popular feature in many salads or as a raw food. However, in the current brochure of the discounter Lidl, they are offered for the steep price of 4.65 euros per kg.

A user on Facebook posted the picture of the prospectus page with the words “Are cucumbers the new gold?”. He asked, “Are you serious?” and respondents in part answered with affirmative reactions.

Many food prices have recently risen. And now also cucumbers? The high price of cucumbers at Lidl does not seem to be a general phenomenon – this is a limited supply of apparently high-priced vegetables. The brochure also notes that the product “may be sold out within the first day of the offer due to limited stocks.” This is not yet an indication of a general shortage – the food supply in Germany is secure, but the supply of certain vegetables, including cucumbers, could fall this year.
