Zimbabwe: Potato imports halted to support domestic growers

According to permanent secretary Dr John Basera from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, the government of Zimbabwe has halted the importation of potatoes from neighboring countries as a way of supporting and promoting local industry.

Dr Basera has stated that the end to potato imports and subsequent financing by AFC would not only support potato production, but create employment and change eating habits. Zimbabwe usually imports potatoes from neighboring South Africa for processing.
