"We work hard to help plum producers and retailers extend the shelf life of their fruit"

This is the peak period of the plum season. Plums are easily damaged during transport or in storage. When temperatures are too low the stone starts to rot, while high temperatures cause the plums to spoil. Keeping plums fresh post-harvest and in storage is therefore one of the key issues in the plum industry. Keeping plums fresh for longer helps to reduce waste and extends the supply season too.

Manager Li of Shandong AWT Biotech Co., Ltd. recently talked about fresh-keeping technology for plums in storage. "Temperatures are usually high when plums are harvested. The breathing process of the plums is vigorous, and the plums rapidly consume nutrients, which causes the fruit to spoil. The plums must be cooled to temperatures of 4-5℃ and less within 24 hours of harvesting. That effectively prevents the plums from spoiling or going soft. At the same time, the breathing process needs to be interrupted. The breathing process is in high gear post harvest and that speeds up the ripening process. Lowering the temperature alone is not enough to keep the plums fresh," said manager Li.

"We at Shandong AWT Biotech developed Logfresh post-harvest fresh-keeping technology to solve this key issue in the plum industry. Logfresh can effectively slow down the breathing process in plums within a short amount of time. Not only is Logfresh quick, but this fresh-keeping technology guarantees product quality for plums in long-term storage while maintaining the original color, fragrance, and nutrients," explained manager Li. "The active elements in Logfresh technology combine with ethylene receptors in plums. This process is irreversible, which means the receptors are permanently occupied. When Logfresh technology is applied for 12 hours or more immediately after the harvest, then the plums will stay fresh in storage for 1.5-3 times longer than normal."

Plums treated with Logfresh technology (right) and untreated plums (left) both kept at 0-1℃ and 90% humidity for 20 days

"We compared regular plums with the plums that have been treated with Logfresh technology. Untreated plums easily spoil. The cell structure starts to decay and the plums get moldy. The plums that have been treated with Logfresh technology, however, remained firm and the flavor was excellent,"  said manager Li.

"Logfresh technology for plums comes in various forms, including fresh-keeping cards and fresh-keeping, slow-release sachets. We also have well-developed fumigation technology for keeping fruit fresh. Fumigation technology can be applied in cold warehouses or refrigerated shipping containers. Fumigation is a simple but effective process that carries the active elements to every corner of the storage space. Fumigation technology is an extremely effective fresh-keeping method."

Shandong AWT Biotech was established in 1996. The company has 30 years of experience in the research, development, and manufacture of fresh-keeping products for the fruit industry. Company products have been registered in Argentina, Mexico, New Zealand, Ecuador, Kenya, Pakistan, India, Turkey, and Serbia.
