Rio Grande do Norte harvests 300,000 tons of melons

According to data from Abrafrutas, some 40% of Brazil’s fruit exports come from Rio Grande do Norte. The state is also a leader in melon production, only the 2021/2022 crop area in the state exceeds 18,000 hectares with a harvest of about 300,000 tons, with about 2/3 of this production destined for the foreign market.

A good part of this production comes from the land of Agrícola Famosa, a company with national capital, with 26 years of existence, located in Mossoró, on the border of the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. Over all these years, the property has consolidated its name in agribusiness, characterized by investments in new technologies, constant research, respect for the environment and social commitment.

According to Ariana Carvalho Pinto, agronomist and manager of the phytosanitary technical department , there are eleven farms producing, which add up to a planted area of 10,000 hectares (ha) of melons. In the last year, around 30 tons of fruit were produced per ha, which represented a total of 200,000 tons.
