"These data should be ratified by an official body, such as the Price Observatory"

Producing plums in Extremadura costs an estimated €0.61/kg and cherries €1.22/kg

According to a study carried out by La Unión Extremadura, producing plums in the autonomous community costs € 0.61/kg, and producing cherries costs € 1.22/kg.

"These data should be ratified by an official body, such as the Price Observatory so that nobody can buy or sell these fruits below these prices," the entity emphasized. On December 2 of last year, the president of the Junta de Extremadura met with La Union Extremadura in Merida after the demonstration of more than 5,000 farmers and informed them that the Ministry would soon publish the first production cost reports prepared by the Price Observatory of the Junta de Extremadura in relation to tomato and plum crops.

La Union Extremadura has requested the Minister of Agriculture to make public the costs of production calculated by the Price Observatory. "It's only 2 weeks before the start of the stone fruit harvest campaign, we urgently require the production costs calculated by the Price Observatory are made public so that, in the application of article 9.1.c of the Law on the Improvement of the Food Chain, these fruits can't be sold below the actual production costs."

"We also want to remind all parties that this law mandates associative entities to sign an individualized food contract with their producers determining the value of the product delivered and the payment schedule. Not doing so is considered a serious offense for breach of the law."
