On April 22, COSCO SHIPPING's "Xinyangpu" vessel loaded with 142 boxes of over 3,000 tons of imported fruits such as fresh durian and mangosteen berthed at Nansha Phase II Terminal. This is the first durian express line in the Nansha port area of Guangzhou Port this year, heralding the official opening of the durian season in the new year. As one of the durian express lines is in Laem Chabang, Thailand, it only takes 4 days for this batch of fresh durians to be shipped from Laem Chabang Port in Thailand to Nansha Port.
Guangzhou is the largest fruit distribution center in South China and even the whole country. Guangzhou Port is seizing the opportunity of the rapid development of the imported fruit market in Southeast Asia, relying on the intensive Southeast Asian routes and the cold chain project in the southern area of Nansha International Logistics Center. It has vigorously expanded its imported fruit business, and has linked shipping companies and fruit customers together by holding a symposium on the imported fruit business in Southeast Asia to strive for more Southeast Asian fruits to be imported from Nansha.
At present, shipping companies such as COSCO Shipping, LSLines, Wanhai Shipping, ZIM Shipping and other shipping companies have opened a number of Thai import express routes in the Nansha port area to provide customers with competitive import schedules. At present, it only takes 4 days for the goods to be transported from Laem Chabang Port to Nansha Port at the fastest. According to statistics, a total of 6,617 natural kraft boxes of imported fruits were completed in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 400%.
The relevant person in charge of COSCO SHIPPING said: "This time, the durian express took the durian from the country of origin to the Nansha port area directly through the whole process of freezing and fresh-keeping technology, with high timeliness and a more stable shipping schedule. In the future, our durian express will arrive in Nansha one after another, providing more products for importing fruit companies, with better schedules and better options for logistics services.”
It is understood that following this durian express line, the Nansha port area will welcome 18 Thai import express lines from April to June 2022. The number of durian express lines arriving in Nansha this year and the volume of boxes has increased significantly compared with last year. This year, it is expected that more than 4,000 natural kraft boxes of fresh durians will enter the Chinese market through Nansha, which is expected to alleviate the situation of durian shortages and high prices in the existing market.
