The price of fresh pears was extremely low last year. Many farmers have cut down their pear trees and switched to other crops. The overall production volume of fresh pears in Hebei is expected to decline. Ms. Li Xixi, spokesperson for Hebei Xionghan Agricultural Produce Co., Ltd., recently talked about current conditions in Hebei pear production areas.
"The temperatures in January and February were lower than around the same time last year. In April, however, temperatures in pear production areas rapidly climbed. The pear trees blossomed later than usual. On-site observations show that relatively few pear trees are in blossom," said manager Li. "Current weather conditions and temperature levels suggest that the harvest will take place slightly later than in regular years. The early-season pear harvest is expected to take place in late June. Crown pears and Yellow Gold pears will follow in early July and their harvest season continues until the middle of August. Autumn Moon pears, New Gao pears, and Fengshui pears can be harvested between the middle of August and the middle of September. Ya pears are expected to ripen between late August and late September," said manager Li.
The price of pears was low last year. Some farmers therefore lost their faith in pears and switched to different crops or left their orchards unmanaged. In some cases farmers cut down their pear trees and completely gave up on pears. The overall production volume of pears in Hebei thus decreased, but it is still uncertain how the product quality will turn out this year. That will not be clear until May or June when weather conditions change."

"As for the price, this week the FOB price of Crown pears was around 19 USD per 10kg. That is slightly lower than last week, but because the volume in storage is limited, the price is not likely to drop much further this season."
"We have already contacted our clients for their purchase plans this upcoming season. "Clients from the EU and North America are paying more attention to environmentally-friendly packaging this season. Many clients have expressed a desire to reduce plastic packaging material and avoid environmental pollution. We are also examining possibilities to reduce plastic packaging for our clients."
