Theo Kampschoer on frost damage in French stone fruit cultivation:

"Frost damage in Les Baronnies up to 50-60%, otherwise I expect an 80% harvest"

The frost damage in French stone fruit is very localised according to Theo Kampschoer of Kampexport. "I have the feeling that in Les Baronnies in particular there is a lot of damage. Those growing areas are quite high and often have had bad luck. There the damage is expected to be 50-60%. Other than that, there are generally less early varieties, I estimate the harvest for the rest will amount to 80%."

"That there are fewer early varieties is not that bad, because they are often on the market at the same time as the Spanish ones. Although this season could be different. In the Murcia region it has rained a lot and in Lerida there seems to be a lot of frost damage," says the Dutch exporter from La Grande Motte, who celebrated his 60th anniversary in the French vegetable trade last year.

Kampexport supply their apricots mainly to the specialists on the wholesale markets in Germany and the Benelux. When the stone fruit season is over, Kampexport switches to the export of Breton vegetables.
