SEPC’s produce inspection training returns to Virtual Garden

The Southeast Produce Council received such positive feedback from its Produce Inspection Training course within the SEPC Virtual Garden in 2021 that it is returning for a second annual course offering.

Conducted by International Produce Training through what has evolved into a 12-year partnership, Produce Inspection Training is a two-day course intended for quality control personnel, produce buyers, produce inventory control personnel and other company associates involved in the receiving, handling, buying and shipping of fresh produce. The SEPC Virtual Garden team offers both sessions over the course of two days, one in May and the other in October.

“Holding our PIT course within the SEPC Virtual Garden has turned out to be a huge benefit. Not only is there a saving in travel-related costs but being able to keep personnel close to home eliminates extended time away to attend in-person training. Additionally, the quality of the training has not suffered. This is a great option for anyone just getting started in the industry or those who are looking for some continuing ed. Paul and his team do a great job,” says Tim Graas, SEPC vice-chairman of the board and PIT program chairman, Associated Wholesale Grocers

The spring session will begin at 9am on May 11, 2022 and conclude by 3 pm and include an overview of the basics of produce inspection followed by several commodity inspection segments led by Paul Manol, vice-president and lead instructor for International Produce Training. After lunch, participants will interact with Paul via a live Q&A segment where he will address any questions that arise throughout the day before concluding the session.

SEPC offers a spring and fall session for its Produce Inspection Training course, both of which must be attended to receive a certificate of completion. For more information about the course or other educational opportunities, visit the Education page of the SEPC website.
