The Dutch company, Landjuweel, has developed a microwave streaming bag line under its Le Bistro brand. This is in response to changing consumer needs and the trend toward convenience, quality, flavor, and healthy eating.
Quick and tasty
"We live in an increasingly hurried world. But we also want to make more conscious health choices. Fortunately, one doesn't exclude the other. You don't have to spend hours in the kitchen to eat healthily. Our microwaveable packages let you steam potatoes in seven minutes. By preparing the potatoes in their skins, you lose fewer vitamins and minerals. And they still taste great too," says Michiel Meijering of Landjuweel.
Variety
Potatoes are no longer a daily staple in many households. People eat increasingly varied meals. To meet this need, Landjuweel now has packs of herbed potatoes.
"We've had a special ZipPop developed. This bag has a separate spice compartment that only opens during the microwaving process. So, the potatoes are basted with tasty herbs during cooking. You can choose between different potato varieties and different herbs. Each with their own unique flavor."
Shelf presentation
Michiel says convenience is not only about preparation. "The right shelf presentation is just as important," he says. "The packaging must be in the right place, have a high impulse value, and be recognizable."
"Store fridges are full of all kinds of ready-to-cook convenience products like pre-sliced vegetables. The unique ZipPop bag means this microwaveable packaging can be presented both inside and outside those refrigerators. Its eye-catching color allows shoppers to find these products at a glance," Michiel concludes.
