Sheep horn honeydew melon is on the market, and the quality is better than in previous years

With the arrival of spring, the temperature gradually rises. A variety of seasonal fruits arrive on the market, and the new popular melon, the sheep horn honeydew melon, also begins to be listed.

Over recent years, the market for sheep horn honeydew melon has been growing. The annual trading volume continues to increase, and the price is slowly falling. In January and February this year, the trading volume of sheep horn honeydew melon increased by 139.88% year on year, and the average price was 15.66 yuan/kg, down by 13.59% year on year. On the one hand, greenhouses in Shandong operated under rather good conditions during the growth period this year. On the other, the planting area of the melon is continuously expanding. Not only is the yield improved, but the quality is also better than in previous years.

At present, the vast majority of the melons in the Jiaxing fruit market are from Shandong. They started to launch at the end of February. Only a small part comes from Yunnan, Hainan, and other regions. The launch time of the melon in these regions is slightly earlier than that in Shandong. But melons from Shandong are crisper in taste and more popular with consumers.

The first batch of sheep horn honeydew melon generally refers to the melons that have had sufficient sunlight and enough nutrients before ripening. It is believed that the nutrition of these melons is higher. Moreover, the first batch of melons is listed on the market early, and their price is higher.

The melon is still relatively easy to select. The ripened melon looks a bit grayish-white, and it has yellow stripes on the skin. But if the melon is gray-green, it has not yet ripened, and it tastes a little crude. At present, the price of the melons can reach 19 yuan/kg for the ones with particularly good quality, and the price of the others with general quality is about 16 yuan/kg.

The melon is generally packed in foam boxes, which is less costly and easier to transport. In addition, a small number of melons are packed in carton boxes, and the fruit generally needs to be wrapped with airbags to ensure stability in the box. Moreover, the size of the boxes is basically fixed, as the size of the melon is basically similar, generally with medium and small sizes.
