On March 2022, Semillas Fitó held the third edition of its TomatoXperience, a demonstration visit in which the company showcased its entire range of tomatoes and the continuous improvement that it brings to the market in all typologies. Despite the bad weather, the edition was a success as continuous groups of technicians, producers, distribution purchasing managers, and journalists have carried out the tour in small groups.
The visitors who participated in this third edition had a real visual and taste experience. In the greenhouse, they got to know the potential of Fitó's long life, traditional, and specialty cherry varieties. They tasted and learn about different qualities of each variety and, in addition, play a fun game in which they learned the importance of using the right rootstock for the good development of each variety.
Leaders in tomatoes, with presence in all typologies
Visitors got to know and try the excellent taste and quality of the company's own branded specialties such as Monterosa and Nippo, as well as its Mulan and Solemio cherries. Monterosa and Nippo have won important international awards for their quality and originality. Mulan and Solemio are the first cherries to achieve the Flavourite award (Consumers Nº1 Taste) for their exceptional flavor.
An area of the greenhouse is dedicated to traditional tomatoes, where the company's bet on Carbonero tomatoes for salads stands out. In this segment, visitors also got to know the Albarado, Tomacó, and Rosamei varieties, which also have enormous potential.
Finally, visitors got to see Fitó's branch tomato varieties and the company's Ateneo variety, with which it has triumphed in the market for more than 8 years.
Perfect Match, the best rootstocks for every variety
Throughout the visit, the rootstocks used for each of the varieties were engraved so that the visitors could play a fun game in which they had to differentiate one rootstock from another and match them with the different varieties. The game was called Perfect Match, just like the company's range of rootstocks, and it consisted of choosing the best rootstock for each of the varieties seen during the tour.
Fitó's rootstocks are characterized by forming very generative plants that favor the aeration of the crop and, therefore, plant health and the tomato's fruit quality. In addition, they have a very powerful pivoting root system, with a high density of secondary roots and a high rate of renewal. These two characteristics are key when it comes to combating soil nematodes and enduring water stress or other situations.
