Jan van den Adel's 29th grape season with Freshtrop:

"Indian grapes are essential for continuity"

The Indian grape season is in full swing at the Dutch company, Direct Source. This is Jan van den Adel's 29th India season. "All these years, I've been working with my special partner and friend, Mr. Ashok Motani of Freshtrop. We've faced many challenges over the years. But we've grown substantially too, and have overcome all those challenges," he says.

"South Africa is developing plenty of later varieties like Timpson, Sweet Globe, Sugar Crisp, and Autumn Crisp. Still, it's impossible to stretch the season until the first Egyptian grapes arrive on the market. Indian grapes, thus, remain essential between week 10 and 20."

"The Indian grape season got off to a challenging start this year. Volatile weather conditions caused it to start slowly, and we have to keep a close eye on quality. We have long-term solid partnerships with suppliers in India," Jan explains. "So, we're constantly monitoring the grapes' quality. Our key Indian partner, Freshtrop Fruits Ltd, has fully optimized its postharvest processing. It can, therefore, deliver premium quality grapes throughout the season."

"It's precisely in challenging seasons that our expertise and strength as a grape specialist shines. We respond to logistical challenges, monitor product quality, optimize the supply chain, and react quickly when needed. That drives us to work with growers and retailers to ensure that consumers can enjoy fresh grapes," Jan concludes.
