South African pome fruit export estimates up 6% compared to 2021

South African pome fruit export estimates for 2022 are up 6% compared to 2021. The increase in export estimate is driven, amongst other things, by the young orchards coming into production. Bigbucks, Cripps Pink/Pink Lady® and Cripps Red/Joya® are expected to increase  significantly.

Golden Delicious inspections YTD in week 9 are down by 10% compared to the same time last season. EGVV volumes are up by 5% whilst Ceres volumes are down by –25% year on year.

For pears, 2022 export estimated are expected to be up 12% compared to the 2021 season. Forelle volumes are anticipated to return to a normal crop of +/- 4mil eqv. cartons. This year’s fruit is clean and no russeting has been observed.
