China: JD.com posts quarterly loss as costs rise, revenue growth slows
JD.com posted a quarterly loss as its operational costs surged, and reported its weakest revenue growth in 6 quarters amid slowing consumer spending, sending shares in the Chinese e-commerce firm down 6% in premarket trade. Net loss attributable to shareholders for the 4th quarter was 5.2bln yuan, compared to a profit of 24.3bln yuan last year. Net revenue rose about 23% to 275.9bln yuan ($43.64bln) in the 4th quarter, while analysts had expected revenue of 274.45bln yuan, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

Germany: Aldi Nord opens new headquarters covering 10 hectares
Aldi has officially opened its brand new Aldi North Campus in Essen-Kray, in the heart of the Ruhr area. In recent years, the discounter has built an entirely new office complex, covering 10 hectares - roughly 14 football pitches. In April, the 1st employees will start working in the building. They will not have to move, as Aldi Nord was already based in Essen.

US: February marks largest grocery price jump in over 40 years
Amid high inflation fueled by COVID supply-chain reverberations, and now the war in Ukraine, grocery prices experienced their biggest year-over-year increase in more than 40 years in February. The Consumer Price Index (for all urban consumers) rose 7.9% year-over-year (unadjusted) for February, the largest since the period ended in January 1982, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported. The 0.8% month-to-month increase (seasonally adjusted) eclipsed the 0.6% uptick from December to January and more than doubled the 0.4% monthly increase in February 2021.

Canada: Empire reports 3rd-quarter sales and profit up from year ago
Empire Company Ltd. reported a quarterly profit of $203.4mln, up from $176.3mln a year earlier, as its sales also climbed higher. Sobeys parent company says the profit in what was its 3rd quarter amounted to 77 cents per diluted share, up from 66 cents per diluted share a year earlier. Sales in the 13-week period ended January 29 totalled $7.38bln, up from $7.02bln, helped by the acquisition of Longo's, higher fuel sales and increased food inflation as well as other initiatives.
