Indian grapes on the water to Russia being received with no problems

Russia is a big market for Indian grapes, especially early in the season before exporters start to send volumes to the European market. The season started normally this year.

“India had weekly volumes of 60-100 containers going to Russia set to arrive in various weeks,” said Indian exporter Nagesh Shetty from Deccan Produce. “We have less than ten on the way to Russia at the moment.”

“I think there is no problem as yet for the containers on water, they are reaching the destination safely and are being accepted by the clients. The lines too have maintained schedules to Russia as of now.”

Nagesh said there is no reason to divert the grapes at the moment. He expects some payment delays due to the exchange situation, but is hoping that things will cool down or an alternate mechanism for payments will start operating soon.

“We have worked with Russia for years now and have encountered problems with exchange and delays in clearance etc before. The problem is much more serious this time so we are not loading more containers till the situation clears, but for the containers already on the water we feel that eventually a solution will come up.”
