The strawberry cultivation area and output rank second in the world's berry fruit production, just behind grapes. China introduced a large number of foreign varieties in the early 20th century and has now become the world's largest producer and consumer of strawberries.

According to the data from the National Bureau of Statistics: During the period from 2011 to 2020, the planting area and output of strawberries in China showed an overall upward trend. Among them, the eastern region accounts for 43.4%, the central region accounts for 26.4%, the western region accounts for 19.4%, and the northeastern region accounts for 10.9%.

China's strawberry market is dominated by domestic demand and the export scale is small, but in recent years, the number and amount of China's strawberry exports have continued to increase. According to Chinese customs data: in 2014, China’s strawberry export volume was only 1,291.5 tons, with an export value of $3.222 million; in 2020, the export volume reached 5,815.6 tons, with an export value of $15.31 million.

The planting area of strawberries has increased significantly, and the output has also increased rapidly, which has become a growth point to promote the development of the fruit industry.
