Galilee Exports works with Save Foods to coat produce

“Not only do they reduce decay and extend shelf life, but also improve the firmness of bell peppers”

Galilee Export and Save Foods, an Agri-Food Tech company specializing in eco crop protection, have been cooperating and are applying Save Foods post-harvest eco-friendly and green treatments on the Galilee bell peppers, in order to extend shelf-life and reduce decay for the products. The exporter aims to also apply the treatment on their avocado offering, as well as other fruits in their offering for the future.

Dror Eigerman, CEO of Galilee Export, states that sustainability and a safe environment are important for the Israeli company. “Because we live with a close attachment to the land and driven by a strong collective heritage, social and environmental responsibilities are among our top priorities. Galilee Export takes all reasonable measures to protect the environment, the people, their health, and rights. We strive to achieve fair and safe employment, as well as conduct our actions in the most sustainable manner. Attentive to our growers, clients and market trends, we take pride in the long-lasting and sustainable partnerships we establish. As such, we always look for new agrotech opportunities and possibilities. One of these is to replace post-harvest chemical treatments with new nature friendly and natural products.”

For Galilee Export, Save Food is exactly that and the exporter is proud to be the first company in Israel that will treat all its bell peppers with Save Food and will use it in more products in the coming weeks: “After several months of evaluating Save Foods’ treatment, my team and I are convinced of the benefits of these products. Not only do they reduce decay and extend shelf life, but they also improve the firmness of the peppers,” Eigerman stated. “The cooperation with Save Foods will lead to both cleaner and better fruit, as well as reducing food waste overall. In our opinion, this is a win-win situation for everybody involved.”

Eigerman is looking forward to applying the treatment from Save Foods on avocados as well, as the company’s been running trials already. “For the past three weeks, all of our bell peppers have received treatment. so anyone receiving the bell peppers from this point on will have the treated peppers. For avocados, we’ve been running tests and trying the treatment on parts of our avocado offering. We’re currently in the process of making our final adjustments. We expect to be done with this in about five weeks, after which all of our clients will also receive the specially treated avocados.”

“Naturally, treating our peppers like this comes with extra costs for the company, but this isn’t a dramatic increase and is already calculated in with our costs for packaging and post-harvest processing. So the consumers will not see a change in prices, as we’re absorbing these costs as a company,” Eigerman explains. “We do see potential for this kind of treatment for all of our other products as well. But we’ll have to test it once the seasons for these products arrive. For example, our mango season doesn’t start until July, so we have no way of trying it our before that time. However, we do expect that this treatment will suit most, if not all, of our other products.” he concludes.
