The government of Belarus has limited the rise in prices of potatoes, beets, cabbage, carrots, onions and apples and other domestic vegetables. The reason is that these very goods in the food group have greatly increased in price in our country and in our neighboring countries.
To protect the domestic market, the Council of Ministers introduced the maximum sale and retail prices for the so-called 'borscht set'. It means that some vegetables and fruits will cost no higher in the stores than the price set by the government. As unreasonable overpricing is still occurring, there will be a uniform control mechanism for all. The selling prices will be indexed monthly, based on the storage costs and losses due to spoiling of vegetables or apples.
