Small businesses the most affected by price increases

"The mid-season assessment for Parlapiano's Arancia di Ribera DOP is more than positive. The company has already commercialized over 2,500,000 kg, which confirms the huge success of a citrus fruit like no other," reports sales/marketing manager Paolo Parlapiano.

"The pandemic increased the awareness as regards the value of a correct nutrition for our health and to strengthen the immune system. Therefore, we will witness an increase in the consumption of fresh produce with a particular attention to the origin and seasonality of products. Fruits from a specific origin and with exceptional organoleptic qualities will be preferred, such as for example Arancia di Ribera DOP, thanks to its high vitamin content."

"The ongoing season has been characterized by increases when it comes to energy, packaging and transport. There are many small businesses in the Arancia di Ribera DOP production territory and the cost of production of citrus fruit is higher than in other areas with larger groves. But these small businesses are precisely what characterizes a century-old production such as that of Ribera oranges. Every day, producers employ crop techniques passed on from father to son with great passion and sacrifice to obtain oranges with an excellent organoleptic profile," adds purchasing manager Vincenzo Parlapiano.

"Parlapiano Fruit remains a leader in the sector because it is a reliable partner offering its unique experience to clients. For this reason, this campaign too has been characterized by an increase in the produce commercialized. This primacy has been repeated for years and was achieved last year too, when the company handled over 60% of the total volumes of PDO Ribera oranges with a volume of 6,391,257 certified kg (MIPAAF official data)."
