The year 2022 started with rising prices in the onion sector of Uzbekistan. The average wholesale prices for onions have increased by 25% over the past two weeks, and current price levels are also 25% higher than at the beginning of January 2021. The average wholesale prices for onions increased from 1,600 to 2,000 UZS/kg (from $0.15 to 0.18) from December 31, 2021 to January 14, 2022. Moreover, the sharpest price jump was observed in the first week of 2022 – by 19%.
The current levels of average wholesale prices for onions in Uzbekistan are also 25% higher than on the same date in 2021. For comparison, the average wholesale price on January 14, 2021 was 1,600 UZS/kg ($0.15).
