Peak week for Chilean cherry exports with thousand of containers arriving in China

"Logistics are the biggest challenge this season. Containers have to be strictly disinfected at Customs and there are other rules that are being followed strictly. As a result, containers are delayed going through Customs and a queue has formed. This is a challenge for cherries, as they cannot wait too long", says Sebastián Bejares Welkner, Commercial and Operational Manager at H Export.

"The next two weeks are key for the season to be successful. Prices have been volatile too. This week is the absolutely peak of the season. More than 5,000 containers are arriving in Southern China this week alone. We all hope that our produce arrives before February the 2nd, the official start of Chinese New Year. The final problem is that the market officially closes a few days before the Chinese New Year officially starts."

"The quality of Chilean cherries on the market is very good. This season's fruit is the largest of many seasons. Besides the size, the fruit quality itself is also good. We were able to pack carefully and really prepare this harvest for the Chinese market. We worked hard this season to select and pack the best quality cherries this year. To create a premium cherry product. In Chile, we changed our mindset. We now really focus on high-end fruits.

"More than 60% of our cherry are sizes Super Jumbo(2J), Premium(3J) and Super Premium (4J). We are currently sending Santina, Kordia, Regina, Lapins, Royal Dawn, Bing and Skeena. We employ Unitec Cherry Vision 3.0, a high-end sorting machine, that enables us to sort by size, color, internal defects, external defects and maturity."

"All is set to have a successful season. We sincerely hope that the current delays clear and that the cherries can enter the market."

Chilean Sugar Plums
In addition to cherries, H Export also exports Sugar plums. The company starts harvesting this week. The season will last for four weeks until the middle of February. It's sugar plums are also exported to China.
