ASOEX is concerned about the port situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile

"In recent days, 4 ships have been unable to enter their respective ports"

The Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile, AG (Asoex) wishes to express its deep concern regarding the port situation that the country is experiencing, and that can have a serious impact on the mobilization of import and export cargo.

"In fact, in recent days 4 ships have had to remain on hold and are unable to enter the respective ports. These vessels have been unable to carry out the corresponding unloading and loading operations because each of them has at least 1 case of COVID-19 among its crew.

“Given the relevance and great repercussion that this type of situation can have, we call on the corresponding authorities, especially the maritime and health authorities, to agree on a protocol aimed at adequately handling this situation, allowing the implementation of isolation regulations for infected people, carrying out the respective sanitization of the ship, and any other measure that ensures the normal performance of the functions of the national navy's personnel and of port workers in general.

“We reiterate that, if the current situation continues and there are similar cases in the future, there will be chaos that is difficult to manage in our ports,” Asoex stated. "Thus, we ask the corresponding authorities to consider our petitions and act accordingly."
