Italian Common clementines have one more month of sales left

The season of the Italian Common clementines is not over yet. "Presumably, we will end the season in the first week of February, a little earlier than in 2021. In the last 4-5 days we have seen an increase in interest from the markets. Orders have even doubled," said Gianni Martucci of Martucci Srl, a company from the province of Taranto dedicated to the packaging and commercialization of citrus fruits.

"Currently most of our citrus production goes to Italian customers, but we also send some product to France and the Eastern European countries. The product is good, beautiful in color and the size is also decent. The medium sizes that are currently being sold are calibers II and III. The prices are also starting to pick up and are €0.10 per kilo higher than in the same period last year. The grower can easily obtain €0.50-0.60 per kilo for the harvested product."

"Clementines are now starting to become scarcer. In any case, the volumes delivered daily to us by the growers are still selling smoothly. No stocks are accumulating and we are not receiving any complaints. During the Christmas period, sales were rather low, even though these are usually weeks when the demand picks up. Even after the New Year, the expected high demand did not materialize. The market started to pick up with about 10 days of delay. Now everything is running smoothly again. The upcoming weeks will be interesting and we hope to close the season in the best possible way."
