Federal Antimonopoly Service

FAS Russia advises retailers to limit markups on socially significant food products

In 2021, Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service held several meetings with the largest retail chains. The service invited retailers to work out responsible pricing mechanisms aimed at voluntarily taking on obligations to reduce prices for socially important food products. The corresponding list includes products like potatoes, carrots and cabbage.

FAS Russia recommended to retail chains to limit markups on certain items within each of the categories of such goods and to ensure their availability in stores in sufficient volume. Based on the results of the meetings, three retailers sent their proposals to the service on commodity items, for which each of them is ready to limit trade margins. The department is currently considering proposals from companies.
