Nepal: Traders see sales of sweet potatoes drop due to Covid-19

The Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market is the main supplier for Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Though the Maghe Sakranti festival is at the doorsteps, sales in the market remain low as Covid-19 continues to affect the economic situation of the consumer. Vendors have seen fewer sales this year in comparison to the earlier years, as the new Covid strain is continuing to increase.

The Covid scare continues to haunt consumers and the market is still struggling hard to get back on the track. Yams used to sell well, but the recession caused by the pandemic continues to be a problem. The festival of Maghe Sakranti (first day of Magh) is celebrated and marked by consuming different tuber crops, mainly yam and sweet potato.
