Yonghui Superstores, one of China's leading supermarket chains recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with international fruit and vegetable supplier Camposol. The official signing ceremony took place at the Yonghui HQ in Shanghai. Following this agreement, the two companies will not only intensify cooperation in the blueberry trade, but also add new products such as avocados, table grapes, and mangoes. Together they will encourage the growing consumption of high-quality fruit products that can be traced to specific production areas.
Mou Ming, spokesperson for import of fresh produce at Yonghui Superstores, and Luis Baanante, CEO of the Camposol China branch office, each represented their respective company during the signing ceremony. David Gamarra, the Peruvian consul general stationed in Shanghai, and Li Songfeng, CEO of Yonghui Superstores, witnessed the ceremony. The two sides have reached an understanding. Together they will explore strategic innovation and opportunities for cooperation. And they will join hands in the promotion of premium fruit products and services to further develop the Chinese fruit market.
CEO Li Songfeng stated that Yonghui Superstores has moved in the direction of direct purchasing from production areas in the last few years. In this way the company established a solid supply chain system. Cooperation with international fruit brands like Camposol is an important aspect of this strategy.
"Yonghui Superstores and Camposol have worked together on blueberry and avocado projects since 2019. And in the coming years we will further expand our cooperation," said CEO Li Songfeng. "We hope to strengthen our cooperation with Camposol for a larger number of top-quality fruit products. We hope to both expand and intensify our cooperation so that Chinese consumers will have even easier access to high-quality, delicious, nutritious, and healthy Peruvian fruit products. That is how we raise the quality of consumer goods in the Chinese market."
Although Camposol headquarters are in Peru, the company also owns farms and processing facilities in other countries such as Colombia, Uruguay, and Chile. Camposol guarantees year-round supply of top-quality fruit and vegetables products to leading retailers in 40 countries across the globe. Their core products include blueberries, avocados, mangos, table grapes, and citrus fruits. According to Baanante the cooperation with Yonghui Superstores will help Camposol increase their services in the Chinese fruit market.
The cooperation agreement outlines the strategy that will help Yonghui Superstores and Camposol move beyond the mere expansion of current cooperation practices. Camposol will benefit from the diversification of retail channels at Yonghui Superstores. The two companies will also cooperate in the development of annual market promotions and the cultivation of consumer habits, which will draw Chinese consumers to high-quality fruit products with track-and-trace codes that allow consumers to access information about the production area and production process of the fruit.
"The blueberry was already an important fruit product for Yonghui Superstores, but following the cooperation with Camposol our sales figures of blueberries doubled. This is an indication of the huge potential of blueberries in the Chinese market." That is according to Lan Xuebin, the spokesperson for Western import products at Yonghui Superstores. "Together with Camposol we set up promotional activities for blueberry sales during the last weeks of the year. And we will work closely with Camposol for the promotion of Peruvian green grapes and mangoes, which began to arrive in late December."
