Grape, onion and vegetable farmers Nashik district worried

Mumbai records second highest 24-hour rainfall ever for the month

Yesterday, Mumbai recorded its second highest 24-hour rainfall ever for the month. The unseasonal showers saw the maximum temperature drop by 9oC, to its second-lowest for December in a decade.

Grape, onion and vegetable farmers are worried as well, as unseasonal rain lashed Nashik district. The unseasonal rain can have an adverse effect on the budding, flowering and harvesting of the fruits at various stages.

On Wednesday, the district woke up to overcast skies followed by incessant rain that continued till late in the evening, throwing normal life out of gear. The maximum temperature also fell to 20.5oC — 11 degrees below normal.

The rainfall is likely to continue on December 2. But the intensity will decrease as the weather system will head to central India.
