EcoMark in France: Cooperation with MBC

“Sustainable, innovative and chemical-free labeling solution”

The future is here - and France is setting a good example: Au révoir, plastic packaging! France has become the first country to enact a new law banning plastic packaging and stickers. Starting in January 2022, this law will apply to products such as cucumbers, zucchini, sweet potatoes, eggplants, pears and more. By 2026, there should be no plastic packaging at all in your fruit and vegetable sections. “The elimination of plastic in the food sector is progressing at an increasing pace, calling for a sustainable, innovative and chemical-free labeling solution: Natural Branding”, stresses German company Eco Mark Ltd.

Natural Branding is the labeling of fruits and vegetables with natural light. This light is generated by a laser, which brands the fruit quickly and without any physical contact. In the process, either the colors of the pigments in the uppermost skin layer are changed via heat (light branding) or a slight burn will form soot particles (dark branding). “The aim is to create a contrast with the rest of the peel. The quality of the fruit remains the same. Thus, a sustainable, plastic-free and permanent mark is created. Also: stickers can drop off, branded logos cannot”, says the management of Eco Mark.

Intelligent & sustainable solution
As a leader in natural light marking, Eco Mark is familiar with all manufacturing needs. “Our machines are sustainable and facilitate many processes, such as: easy operation, time saving through automation because set-up time is eliminated, variable branding in the shortest possible time, crate recognition and evaluation by 3D cameras. Our solution is more dependable than a sticker and selects layout and laser automatically. The result is cost efficiency and flexibility.”

Eco Mark has been working with their French partners MBC Sarl for some two years now. MBC, led by Jean-Charles Bradesi, has been well-known for decades in the field of labeling and packaging solutions. “Together, we were able to put EcoMark's first Natural Branding machines into operation with pioneering companies in France, so that peaches, nectarines and kiwis can now be offered plastic-free in supermarkets. We even received the "Sival Bronze" innovation award for our technology.”

“Let's be faster together. Let’s reach the finish line before the starting signal sounds, through Natural Branding. Let's reduce plastic consumption together.”
