Italy pays tribute to its crops by issuing stamps dedicated to 15 food products

On 20 November 2021, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development issued fifteen stamps dedicated to fruit and vegetables of protected denomination. The stamps have a price of €0.25.

Stamp characteristics
The stamps have been printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato SpA, in white, neutral coated, self-adhesive, non-fluorescent rotogravure paper; weight: 90 g/sqm; support: white, one-sided, 80 gsm Kraft paper; adhesive: water-based acrylic type, distributed in quantities of 20 gsm (dry); sheet size 40 x 48 mm; print size: 38 x 46 mm; tracing size: 47 x 54 mm; perforation: 9 made by die-cutting; colors: six.

The print edition is of 100,000 sheets, consisting of 15 different stamps, encased in one sheet and arranged in three rows, amounting to a total of 1,500,000 stamps.

Sheet characteristics: size 259 x 187 mm; colors: six.

The top of the sheet bears the inscription "Ministero dello sviluppo economico - Prodotti a denominazione protetta".

The stamps have been designed by Fabiana Del Curatolo.

The fifteen stamps depict, in stylized graphics, a series of Italian agri-food products with Protected Designation of Origin, which are among the 170 recognized by the European Union. In the top left corner of each stamp is the mark of the Protected Designation of Origin, commonly known in Italian by the acronym DOP (PDO).

The stamps are also marked with the inscription "dalla terra Italiana" (from Italian soil) and the corresponding words "Pomodoro" (tomato), "Fagiolo" (bean), "Carciofo" (artichoke), "Arancia" (orange), "Peperone" (bell pepper), "Mela" (apple), "Melanzana" (eggplant), "Patata" (potato), "Castagna" (chestnut), "Cipolla" (onion), "Nocciola" (hazelnut), "Fico" (fig), "Basilico" (basil), "Aglio" (garlic), "Pistacchio" (pistachio), the inscription "Italia" (Italy) and the price indication "€ 0.25".
